Hay! I'm Gonna Write A Book!

Hay!

You got some? I got an extra flake tonight from my Mom Lady, because she took me inside to be brushed when there was still hay left from my supper and Athena - the other horse who stays outside with me all night - she ate it all when I was inside. I was pretty excited to see my Mom Lady bring that over to me when she was all done sweeping and such.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........................................................

Sorry. I get distracted so easily by foooood...........like those sweet little cylindrical treats that she gives me at the end of our visits..........

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...........................................................

Ah! See!! Let's talk about something else, and quickly, before I lose all of my focus completely tonight. You see, I've been meaning to talk to you about something, and I think it's best if I just come out and tell you, right away.

I would like to write a book. Q, my Mom Lady, she tells me that she's writing a book about her life. She says it's about all the bad stuff she's lived through and how she managed to turn her life around, so that now she has mostly fun during her days. She says visiting me is one of her favorite fun to do, EVER. I believe her. We have lots of fun together, and she usually gives me treats...... mmmmmmm.........

WAIT! NO! FOCUS, PONY, FOCUS!

Ooh, that was close. I almost forgot what I was telling you!

See, when my Mom Lady talks about writing books, she gets all excited, and beams out this active energy from her core, which is really fun for me to be around. I was thinking that if I wrote my own book, I would have my own excited energy - and I could share my energy with HER!

So what do you think? Would you like to read a whole book written by me?

I would.

*le neigh*

Off to sleep for me! I hope to talk to you soon!

Lyric on Film

I decided that it had been too long since I'd last taken any photos of Lyric, so I brought my camera out to the barn tonight. After I had already ridden and untacked him, I remembered that I HAD the camera, so I took a few photos and this short video clip.

I also met a dressage trainer who is an "S"-rated dressage judge, who is at the barn twice a month to give a few people lessons. For my non-horsey and non-dressage friends, the ladder of dressage judges goes like so:
"L" Graduate (not officially licensed, program through USDF - I used to help run this as part of my job there).  Up next is "r" (recorded), then "R" (Registered) and then, the highest level of licensing by the US Equestrian Federation (national level) - the "S" or Senior rating. Above that, officials are licensed through the FEI, which is the INTERnational organization in charge of such things. So she knows what she's talking about. I'm very excited for the opportunity to maybe ride with her a few times a month. I talked to her and she said that March would be a good time to start riding with her, and I explained about my new job and how Lyric is probably moving to Lakeville around March, so we'll have to work out the details. Regardless, I may have found me and Mr. Wonder Pony a dressage trainer! Now I just need to find us someone to teach us to jump and do cross-country.... :)

Here are a few of the still shots from the barn tonight. I'll try to remember to take photos of him when he's tacked up sometime soon. He's so handsome. :) *sigh*

The stocking actually says "Sir Lyric the Wonder Pony" but the "Sir" is mostly hidden here.

Merry Christmas Everyone!!

Hello, World!

"Someday you will express yourself fully, no matter what medium you may choose."  - Irving Stone, through one of his characters in Lust for Life, to the main character Vincent Van Gogh

Isn't that what we all want to accomplish within our lifetime? To find a way to state unequivocally to the world who we are, and find that the rest of the world Loves us, for who we are? Maybe it's only MY dream, not necessarily shared by the masses. I don't know though - I really do think that everything that anyone is searching for all stems from a core desire to be Loved and accepted as Good by other souls. That's all I've ever wanted anyway. To be loved by my own person. Unequivocally. (That's a good word.)

I found my person just a little over a year ago, on November 18, 2009. I wasn't sure what she would be like before I met her, or if she was even a she at all. My person could've easily been a guy, a brother-in-spirit. As it turned out, my other half came packaged as a short little lady with liquid eyes and a heart that melted into mine the very first time we met.

It was a chilly overcast day, not unlike any other during November in Minnesota. It was not unlike any other day, that is, until I came up to the barn for supper with my herdmates. I heard the higher and faster-paced pitch of the energetic lady who belongs with Murphy. Her name is Sarah. She was talking to another human, a short person in a black stocking hat and a puffy black jacket. This little person was walking forward a few steps into the gate, to open it and let us in the barn aisle. She caught my eye. My head instinctively dropped in cautious curiosity and I felt her heart energy melt into my own. Finally. My person. It wasn't so very chilly out any longer.

I walked towards her, never breaking the eye contact that mesmerized us both. It was my half-brother who finally broke the magnetic gaze, by walking in front of me, cramming me behind him a bit. I heard my person's soft voice speak to Sarah, asking about me, who I was, what my name was.

"Tohamah. Do you like him? Vicky's trying to find him a good home....."

I saw my little lady person's face contort slightly and I felt her regret shoot from her belly. Oh but she's mine! Doesn't she know that she's mine?! I wanted to talk to her more, but I'm not gonna lie - this guy right here was also quite hungry. It's hard work keeping warm in that weather, warm love or not! I went into my normal stall, the second one on the right, and I awaited my dinner. As I looked around to see if someone had already visited and left food in their wake, I noticed my new little lady person at my stall door, looking in at me through the metal bars on the top half of the stall. I stopped in my search to snuffle her fingers and say hello up close.

My person - she smiled at me and I knew I had made it safely home. Her small fingers danced through the steel bars and I did my best to warm them with a cloud of warm steam puffed out from my nostrils. She smells nice. Like a nice horse treat, but in a person-form smell. It's hard to explain; don't laugh at my interpretations please.

Just then I heard one of the dogs barking up the driveway to the main entrance of the barn. Vicky was home! I was excited for my barn mom to meet my lady person and see her reaction. In the meantime, supper was being served and I could certainly keep myself occupied whilst they conversed.

And wow - did they ever converse. I bet I didn't even hear my name mentioned for a good 30 minutes - long after my grain was a distant memory and long enough to start my worrying mind working on "maybe I made the connection up in my mind - she hasn't even looked at me in ages". Uffda! Those ladies sure like to yak yak yak sometimes.

Finally, and I mean FINALLY, Sarah Energy-Person popped her vibrant torso out of Murphy's stall, where they were all congregating, and she asked my barn mom Vicky the all-important question:

"So! Guess who SarahQ fell in love with?"

Her name is SarahQ! She loves me! I suddenly understood why dogs wag their tails with joy.

"Who?" asked Vicky.

"Tohamah...."

SarahQ agreed immediately and declared that I'm "so handsome!"

It was when Sarah described how my Lady and I first met, how I did not retreat to the back corner of my stall with the whites of my eyes showing my fear of life, but rather greeted my Lady as an old friend - it was then that my life changed forever and my amazing barn mom, Vicky, turned to my newly found small lady person, this SarahQ, and she asked:

"Do you want him?"

SarahQ's smirk and shocked looked of utter and complete disbelief confirmed what I already knew - that we're going to make history with our story. It's that sincere and honestly beautiful - We Love One Another.

Look at that phrase - "one another". Break it down. "One" - singular. A solid measurement, without separation, right? "Another"- an other. Not the self. Other.  "One Another" - aren't we all one and the same after all?

Her first reply to the offer of my lifelong companionship reflected the disbelief on her face, which was rosy from the dropping temperature as the moon got comfortable.

"I don't have any money..."

"No. I want you have him," Vicky proclaimed.

"You're giving me your horse." It didn't register with my Lady person immediately.

"Tohamah needs his own person and we don't have the time he really deserves. He's obviously your horse and he belongs with you. Will you take him?"

"Oh my God. You're giving me your horse?!"  SarahQ's face burst into a faint yellow light and her grin nearly swallowed her eyes. I felt my own heart surge as her energy raced over and swirled up around me like the autumn wind.

My Lady. *sigh*  We Love One Another.

So anyway! That's the story of how I met my Lady, who is also known as Q or Sarah to others. She gave me a new name, one I like quite a bit, especially after hearing her reasoning for choosing it for me. She named me Lyric, because "two of my favorite most beautiful things in existence are music and words. You, therefore, are Lyric because you are my most favorite and the most beautiful horse ever to exist." Can't argue with that.

We've been together ever since that fateful first meeting and we've come a long way in our relationship already. I started this blog because I know that a lot of my Lady's friends are in my unofficial fan club and might be interested in the journey I'm on with Q, in more detail than I can do in style on facebook. To that end, I've started this blog to tell our Tale of riding that upward spiral, all the way to the top - and then some.

Love,
Lyric
